Cozumel is a standard for western Caribbean cruises. Cozumel is an island a few miles off the coast of Mexico near Cancun. There’s almost always a few cruise ships in port. The population of Cozumel goes up and down by several thousand people every day as the ships come and go.
Cozumel Shopping
There’s something for everyone. You can get tee shirts, local art, blankets, you name it. There’s also lots of restaurants to try. If you are in the market for some silver jewelry, Cozumel won’t disappoint you. There’s lots of jewelers on Cozumel. Everything is within walking distance of the main cruise pier. The other one may take a taxi ride to get you where you want to be.
Ruins
There are several Mayan ruins on the island. San Gervasio is the most famous, others are in more remote areas and it’s not advised to go looking for them without a guide. Some are only really accessible by boat. What passes for roads on parts of the island are barely even walkable paths. The maps can be misleading so be careful if you go exploring.
Diving in Cozumel
Cozumel is probably the best deep diving location in the Northern Hemisphere. Whether you want to go snorkeling or experience one of the most vibrant coral reefs anywhere in the world, Cozumel is your destination of choice.
Tikila
Tikila is one of our favorite things to do in Cozumel. Most people are likely to go right past it. If you try to take a taxi, you are invariably going to say “tequila” in which case you could end up just about any where. Pronounce it Tiki LA and you should end up at the right place. It is literally a dive bar.
There’s diving underneath and bar up above, it’s not very big. There’s only a handful of tables. But, just very relaxing and wonderful food. I’ve never had a bad meal there, and you know you get yourself a locker, you read some snorkel equipment. And, you know, go out and just have a great old time, and then come back and have a few cerveza. And it really kind of makes the day complete, you probably have to look for on the map to find it because if it’s not very pronounced and it’s not in the tourist district, but it’s, it’s really, I think well worth it, and we always make it a point to go there. Any chance we can, and just sit and listen to music, and have some good food and drink and enjoy the scenery. So next time you’re in Cozumel, definitely check it out.
