Augusta Kentucky is known to be a very small town, but small towns can have big surprises. As of 2010, the United States Census recorded Augusta’s population at 1,190. The town was first organized in 1796, but became formally incorporated in 1850 by the state assembly. The main attractions in this town are the Augusta Ferry, the Rosemary Clooney House, Baker-Bird Winery, O’neil Landing, 1811 Historic Jail, Gilded Lily Walking Tours of Augusta and Mac Daddy’s Saloon, Inc.

Rosemary Clooney House

This museum was formerly the singer/actor’s personal home. It is now a getaway and favorite visiting site of many of her fans. She is best known for her role in White Christmas. Her final resting place is also in Augusta, Kentucky. You can take pictures, get a tour and purchase memorabilia. If you are one of her admirers, this should definitely be on your tour stop.

Baker-Bird Winery

This historic winery was the first vineyard in the United States to be planted for commercial use. It is in the Kentucky Bluegrass area. It was named “America’s Rhineland” by German settlers because it reminded them of home. When you visit this site you can find a variety of activities such as wine classes, bottle hunts and, of course, wine!

Ms. Lily

Walk with Ms. Lily in the town of Augusta, KY as you visit and learn about places such as a Civil War battle site, Underground Railroad scenes and the oldest jail in Kentucky. Ms. Lily personally escorts you through history with her own rendition of events along with factual excerpts. If you are looking to be entertained and learn at the same time, this is definitely a one stop shop for adventure.
