Dresden makes for a great place to visit on your cruise even if you only have a short amount of time to do so. It’s only a two hour train ride away from Berlin and there are plenty of things to do while here. If you will only be in Dresden for one day, here are some of the things that you can do.
Frauenkirche
Once a catholic church, today it represents diversity and reconciliation. There is a Martin Luther statue that’s located in front of the church that signifies some of the history of the area. Unfortunately, Frauenkirche has had a difficult past. While it survived a bombing, it did eventually collapse. However, reconstruction efforts were successful and today it looks similar to its former self.
Zwinger Palace
First opened back in 1719, this is one of the most well known landmarks in this city. The structure is absolutely spectacular and features a Rococo style. While here you can see several museums as well as a fountain and gardens. Visitors should also make it a point to see the collection of porcelain and the picture gallery.
Kreuzkirche
Visitors can get a great view of Dresden by visiting Kreuzkirche, the Church of the Holy Cross. You will have to climb up numerous stairs to get to the top, but it is worth it to see everything around you. The Altmarkt can be see as well as Frauenkirch and the culture palace. In addition to the views, Kreuzkirche features some interesting architecture that makes for a few good photo opportunities.
