Koblenz, Germany is a small historic city located on the River Rhine. The River Rhine is beautiful and I suggest walking along it. It takes you right into the city center. The path was recently renovated and takes about thirty minutes to complete. There are many lovely photo ops along the way including the statue of Empress Augusta. The path ends at the German Corner, a beautiful historical place.
Dating back to 9 BC, Koblenz, Germany is a city that lies between two rivers: Rhine and Moselle. As a matter of fact, the city’s perfect location between these two flowing streams of water is how it’s name originated. Koblenz is a Roman name meaning ‘Confluentes’.
With a population of approximately 113,000 citizens, this town is home to the University of Koblenz-Landau, other educational and technical establishments, and The Middle Rhine Museum, which holds a significant collection of art and artifacts.
Koblenz Industry
There are also several industry centers that produce a wide array of products within the German town. Some of the products manufactured within the city include: aluminum products, paper products and printing, and data-processing equipment to name a few. There are also several industries just on the outskirts of the city.
Don’t fall into believing this town is full of all work and no play, though. There is an abundance of fun to be had in the water-surrounded city. At just under 900 meters long, Koblenz is home to a cable car system that carries more than 7500 passengers per hour! This is higher than any other cable car in the world.
Other adventures to partake in within the beautiful city include visiting Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, exploring the Rhineland-Palatinate’s cultural history at Landesmuseum Koblenz, and feeling like a queen (or king) while at Schloss Stolzenfels, one of the most celebrated castles in the area.
Visit the Fort
From there you can enjoy a ride on a cable car to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The fortress is a huge historic site, with a food court and tons to see. The solider’s tents are an extremely popular site, and they often have mock sword fights for visitors. After hanging around the fortress, make your way to downtown Koblenz. This area is brimming with historic architecture, including the Electoral Palace. You can grab dinner at a local pub, for an authentic dining experience.
