On your cruise to Montreal start planning your day before you get there because there is so much to do. The port in Montreal is located in the heart of Old Montreal which is said to be the most beautiful part of the city. It reminds me of New Orleans without the heat and humidity. For anyone interested in architecture this is the city for you. Roam the city to view the variety of architectural styles used within the city. Visitors should check out the three most prominent public squares Place s’Armes, Viger Square, and Dominion Square. All three squares show their own unique side of the city. Many visitors flock to the Notre- Dame Basilica to view the colorful stain-glass windows.
Two sides to Montreal
Montreal is one of my favorite cities. It has basically two sides to it, there’s an. There’s an old side with kind of an old world charm, and a new side which is much more cosmopolitan. The old side reminds me of New Orleans, but the new side is more modern there’s some amazing restaurants in the St Catharine’s district. There’s also the red light district which is right across the street. So if you go for food, you may get to see some other things that you hadn’t planned on. It’s still a beautiful city. There are gardens and there’s some great views. There’s also a former Olympic site that you can visit. If in the summertime. You can catch a Montreal Expos game. And, of course, being that it’s Canada, there’s plenty of beer to be had everywhere, as Molson is the lifeblood of the province.
To learn more about the history of Montreal one should visit the Pointe – a – Calliere Museum. For those interested in science and technology the Montreal Science Center is a fun place to head for a few hours. Old Montreal is also known for their unique festivals that happen year around so make sure to look at the dates you plan to visit for the most up to date information on any festivals that might be going on while you are in town.
Bon Appetit
The one thing you can count on any time of year in Montreal is great food. One thing I always look forward to is Date Squares. They are available at most places that sell pastries. I still don’t know why we tend to have fig bars south of the border and date bars north of the border – but that’s just me. The Saint Catherine’s area has lots more than just pastry shops. Great food everywhere. If you are bringing the family note that there is quite a bit of “adult entertainment” in the area as well. Closer to the port has more restaurants geared towards tourists.
For a completely unique restaurant experience check out LOV. Its website calls it “a cuisine inspired by botany, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant.” For something a little less on the wild side but still delicious try Bocata a Mediterranean wine bar. Stash Cafe is another great option and it offers many traditional Polish dishes.
