Mykonos sits on the picturesque Aegean Sea with winding streets and warm summer atmosphere. Not a lot of cruise ships dock here, but it’s a must visit port of call if you are lucky enough to be on one of them. The small streets make this touristy spot feel claustrophobic at times, but it is still worth exploring Mykonos Town for the quaint shops and restaurants. If you manage to make it through the town, renting and scooter to get around the island is a great way to take in all the beauty. Mykonos while small, has subtle grassy hills and quaint seaside cottages to explore. You can find scooter rentals near the port and on the outskirts of town.
Mykonos Beaches
The beaches are generally small and quite rocky, full of tourists, but beautiful with their crystal clear waters. The coast is lined with ocean-front restaurants where you can enjoy the view and a bite to eat. The beaches in Mykonos have beach clubs where you can rent umbrellas and deck chairs for a more exclusive experience. Paraga Beach is one of the best beach club options with extensive food and bar options. It’s only a short 30-minute walk from Paraga Beach to Platis Gialos, another popular beach spot.
The island also has plenty to see and do if you don’t feel like spending the day on the beach. Mykonos has windmills and historical churches spread throughout the island. Paraportiani church is located within Mykonos Town. It’s one of the more popular churches and has five churches that were part of Mykonos Castle. Around every corner of the town is an adventure to explore. Getting lost in the maze of streets is half the fun of this idyllic seaside town. You will be sure to want to come back for more than one day after your cruise is over.
