There are a lot of choices for a fun filled day in Seward. The beautiful scenery, beaches, and wildlife are big attractions. And this town sports museums, many fairs and festivals, and some great historic adventure spots.
If you want to see some of the great outdoors and wildlife, exploring the Kenai Fjords National Park is a must. It is Alaska’s best site for wildlife adventures and it sports some breathtaking scenes of fjords and glaciers. There are boat tours to see seals, whales, otters, and other aquatic species in the harbor.
If you feel like walking and catching the scenery, you can hike to Caines Head from the Resurrection Bay. It is a five mile hike along a coastal trail and is highly rated.
Touch a Glacier
Or check out Exit Glacier. It is Alaska’s most accessible glacier and is very close to Seward and it’s a short ride on a shuttle bus or taxi to get there. The easy hike will take you close enough to this glacier to actually touch it.
If you want to stay in town, check out the historic Alaska Railroad Depot. It was known as the “Gateway to Alaska” and has been there since 1917. You can also see the start of the Iditarod Trail where the great race takes place and the Founder’s Monument. This is where the founders landed back in 1903.

Or if you feel like being indoors, the Seward Museum/Resurrection Bay Historical Society has great photos, documents and artifacts. And they have Native ivory carvings and baskets on display. You can also visit the Seward Community Library and Museum which has a museum on one floor and a library on a second floor.
There is also the Alaska Sealife Center to see some great sea life. And if you are hungry, Chinooks is a great waterfront restaurant to experience some delicious seafood.
Whatever you choose to do, Seward has some great sights and adventures for everyone.
