For those who do not know where Jost van Dyke is, it is the smallest of the four chain islands of the British Virgin Islands. It is referred to as the “New York of the Virgin Islands,” and is the main commercial center of the British Virgin Islands. Jost van Dyke offers daytime as well as nightlife activities. Most of the action takes place on the south side of this M-shaped island.
For those who love the nightlife, there is the One Love Bar and Grill. It looks like something thrown together at the last minute. It serves cold Carib beer and heaping open-faced lobster rolls ($20.00). If you plan on eating, prepare yourself for a truly beach dining with plastic chairs and tables sprawled out under sea grape shading. There is also Foxy’s Tamarind Bar. Foxy’s lives up to its name as it is decorated with bandanas, hats, dangling t-shirts and underwear to give a truly foxy atmosphere. But don’t let that fool you; it’s a swinging place with its on-site brewery; lively music on the weekends; the best all-you-can-eat ribs, chicken and fish on Saturday nights ($28.00/person).
Explore Jost van Dyke
There’s more to do on Jost van Dyke than eating and drinking. For those who are more of a daytime person, there’s scuba diving trips and eco-excursions around the island. For those shoes haters, you can
stroll barefooted for about 20 minutes through Jost van Dyke’s “city center.” Or you can relax in its naturally-formed tidal pool–Bubbly Pool. If you desire a bit of privacy, just east of Bubbly Pool is a
small, uninhabited island, Sandy Spit. Sandy Spit is perfect for a romantic picnic and snorkeling. You can ride with the wind on a windsurfing kit. For those who are more daring, you can explore the
island using one of their ATV units or trek mountain bikes. There is never a dull moment on Jost van Dyke.
