If you love old historic buildings and a non touristy town, you will fall in love with Miltenberg, Germany. This is favorite stop on many European river cruises. The town is in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia in Bavaria. It has all the Bavarian charm you would expect. The ship will dock in the heart of this town , five minutes from the main street, Haupstrasse. There you will find the locals bustling shopping or eating in the local shops and cafes. If you want to see the touristy spots, there is the Miltenberg Castle. This is a tourist favorite for its view of the panoramic landscape. The cobblestone steps are a bit of a challenge to navigate but it’s well worth the journey.

Or you can just browse the local shops on Haupstrasse and check out the local attractions. Be sure to check out the Faust Brewery to sample the local beer and take a tour. This is also a bit of a destination for the rich and famous too. The Gasthaus zum Riesen is the oldest royal in and has been the destination of choice for Martin Luther King, Elvis Presley and others.
The language spoken in Miltenberg is German, but many people do speak English. The currency used is the Euro and there are ATMs and several banks on the main street. Whatever you decide to do, bring your camera, as you will want to capture the sites of Miltenberg.
