Cruising the tributaries of the Mississippi River in the summer months may bring you to the heart of Kentucky. You may have heard of Paducah before, but now it’s your chance to visit.
Since you’ve only got part of a day, here are the sites and experiences you might want to consider.
The Lloyd Tilghman House and Civil War Museum commerates Lloyd Tilghman, a Paducah resident who fought for the Confederacy. It is a wonderful experience as the museum brings to life the stories of the time through their artifacts and collected memorabilia.
The American Quilter’s Society has founded the Quilt Museum. Each year they hold a large convention and the winning quilts are on display. You’d be amazed to see how many techniques there are in order to make some of these beautiful quilts, and your time will be well spent.
Take A Walk
Walk down Broadway. This is a wonderful afternoon. Right off the Ohio River is the great historic district and there are many antique shops and restaurants to enjoy. On Saturday nights in the summer, Broadway becomes a pedestrian street with bands and other live entertainment.
Finally, for what is a very different type of site when visiting a new city, you should visit the Floodwalls. A large floodwall protects the city from the Ohio River. Over the past few years it has been decorated to depict the town’s history. It shows the story of the people of Paducah and the neighboring areas.
